Who Is Erick Blackwelder
Hi, I'm Erick. Husband, father, son, friend, and the local real estate guy in Prince William County, Virginia.
My Dad was in the Air Force when i was born, so I'm an Air Force Brat, raised all around the world, from Wiesbaden to Wahiawa. Dad retired from active duty and we moved to Fairfax County, Virginia, where Dad had a second career at the Pentagon, and I got to stay in Mt. Vernon high school all four years.
I went "Home" to San Antonio, Texas, to get my degrees at Trinity University, never thinking I would return to Virginia. All my aunts, uncles, and cousins lived around San Antonio. I love the culture of pride we Texans have for The Lone Star State.
After college, I embarked on a six month adventure, roaming the Caribbean working as hired crewman aboard yacht deliveries to the Leeward Islands.
A job offer as a policy research writer for Texas Governor John Connolly brought me back to the Washington DC area. It felt good to be back in the middle of the action of politics and government.
A better job offer with a Fortune Top-10 company sealed my fate... Northern Virginia was now my second home.
I bought my first home in Lake Ridge, in 1983, married Patty in 1984, birthed our two babies in 1988 and 1991, and along the way we've bought and sold five homes in the Woodbridge area.
I got my real estate license in 1988 so I could buy investment properties on my own with the help of the MLS at my fingertips.
In 1990, I purchased Dallas Wood Realty with two partners, and set about the process of turning a failing mess into a thriving company. I found out that owning a real estate company isn't as fun as helping folks sell and buy homes.
I sold my portion of the company to my partners and went back to my roots, listing and selling homes while building my own team of specialists. My staff includes a Listings Manager, a Buyer Agent, a Transactions Manager, and a Marketing Manager.
My staff allows me to focus more of my time on you by handling all of the "back-room" operations, i.e. paperwork.
Plus, i need time to have fun. I've been flying my little airplane for 30+ years; Patty and I love cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda, or Mexico; i snow ski every-other week for a couple of days in winter with my pal, Vinnie; Pat and i have enjoyed bare-boat sailboat charters with friends on the Chesapeake; spring and fall are my favorite times of year to play golf; summer is a good time to beat the heat up in the mountains on dirt bikes and ATV's.
