My family and I moved to a really cool, 45 year-old house two years ago. The house had a kitchen that was updated 25 years ago, and the bathrooms were the original baths from when the house was built.
We updated the kitchen when we moved into the house, and we planned to update the bathrooms until we found out that the back foundation wall needed a major repair to keep from caving-in.
Well we just had all three baths remodeled.
The photos below will take you behind the scenes so you can see the challengs we tackled during the remodeling.
The first step was to chisel the old tile off the walls and floors. Removing the tile, and scrapping out the debris was a one day job for our contractors. The old tile didn't want to come off easily.
Water leaked through gaps in the tile behind and under the old bath tubs over the course of many years of regular use. The water leaks caused the wood to rot around and under the tub. The old subfloor and the drywall surrounding the tub had to be removed.
The old rotten subfloor was replaced with new plywood subfloor that was water-proofed before the new tile was installed.
A new single-handle plumbing valve was installed in place of the old hot and cold water valves. Our contractor, Josue, used all new copper pipe to feed the new plumbing fixtures.
New concrete wallboard was installed around the tub, and new plywood replaced the rotted plywood subfloor beneath the bath tub. A shiny new tub was installed.
New tile was installed around the tub. A bright LED floodlight was installed above the tub, and the floor was tiled with same tile used on the walls.
A new vanity, mirror, and light fixture brightened up the space.
