What you may not have heard about, is the government's definition of first-time homebuyer.
It's a little more relaxed than the name suggests... To qualify, you or your spouse may NOT have owned a home (that served as your primary residence)
in the three years prior to the purchase date of the home.
This does NOT include rental or vacation property.
So pretend for a moment that you owned a series of homes over a few decades. Perhaps you have
bought and sold multiple homes.
Now, if you sold your previous more than three years ago, you qualify for the $8,000 first time buyer
federal income tax credit. Yep, you have been touched by a magic wand by the recent "Stimulus"
legislation passed by congress.
